Hello,
We were experiencing issues with large file deletes and spikes in latency from our Netapp filers. We run v3240's and FAS2240's. All are running 8.1.2GA or 8.1.1GA. The problem was only observed on those filers running 8.1.2GA.
One operation that was observed to causing the problem consistently was Storage vMotions from an NFS datastore. In particular, the tail end of the Storage vMotion when the guest machine's files were deleted from the datastore seemed to trigger the problem.
It looks like other people were experiencing the same issue. NetApp confirmed that a bug existed related to the deleting of large files. That issue was addressed in 8.1.2P3. We decided to deploy 8.1.2P4 as it included additional fixes related to deleting large files.
Has anybody else deployed 8.1.2P4 yet? We just completed our deploy of 8.1.2P4 and it seems to have resolved the issue with large file deletes. We've tested a few Storage vMotions and removals of VM's with no issues thus far.
If you are using 8.1.2P4, have you observed other issues?
Thanks, Phil
We had the issue until 8.1.2P3, deployed in April. The issue was first fixed there and would be included in 8.2. 8.1.2P4 wasn't out yet and we desperately needed the fix.

Currently holding off upgrade to 8.1.2P4 although it does fix a lot of issues but had several "out of frying pan into fire" upgrades. Just checked on the Netapp Download page (Jump to release at bottom of page) and it's showing already:
Data ONTAP - 8.1.2P4D1 642674 - SMB 2.x authentication requests (Kerberos) fail for certain security buffer sizes

We were hesitant for the same reason but the "large file delete" issue was serious enough that we had to expedite the roll out of this patch. P4 included some additional fixes for "large file delete" related issues so we decided to go with it instead of P3. So far, so good but I'm not happy to see that note about the debug patch release.
Is there any way to get notified of new debug patch releases? I would have never known it existed if you didnt mention anything. Thanks a bunch!

I believe I found it. "Bug Alerts Profiler" under "My Support". This should make life tracking ONTAP bugs a little easier.
