I was curious if anyone knew if the following config is supported.
Our 'main' filer has a volume that we make available in remote offices using flexcache. All of our filers are still running 7-Mode and we are about to do a forklift upgrade of our main filer.
It is tempting to go to Clustered OnTap but its not clear if I would also have to upgrade all the filers in remote offices to Clustered OnTap at the same time as well or if I can continue to use 7-Mode and still be able to access the volume on the main filer via flexcache.
Thanks

7m nodes can be Flexcache clients using a CDOT flexcache server.
CDOT *can't* be a flexcache client of another CDOT cluster, so you don't want to upgrade the remote office systems.

Yes, you can do this. I have a cluster mode install at one site with caches (7mode) at other sites.

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like it might be time to bite the bullet and move to cdot.
Out of curiosity, since NetApp is no longer developing 7-Mode is the plan to eventually sunset flexcache and is there some other way to get flexcache like capability in cdot?

There is no plan to support FlexCache in CDOT as far as I know. The Avere Systems caching product has been qualified by NetApp to provide FlexCache capability (and more) in all-CDOT environments. See the below TR-4443 for more information.
