Ferdie, Grasping at straws... After your toaster comes up, if you enter 'ndmpd status' from the console or admin host, is the status 'ON' then? If so, perhaps it's just timing. Maybe the process to switch on ndmpd hasn't completed yet when the 'ndmpd status' command is read. Try moving the 'ndmpd on' up a few lines in the /etc/rc file - like just before the 'options' calls - to give it a bit more time. Bob

Sorry for the confusion, here is a copy of the rc file.

Ferdie,
Have you tried "ndmpd on" in lower case?
Jim

I rebooted last night. This morning, the Veritas guy was testing the library, and when he entered in the NDMPD STATUS command, it said it was not active.
Someone mentioned that I should capture the POST and boot process, but I won't have an opportunity to reboot the Filer for a while.
As a side note; when testing the backup software, the CPU on the Filer and the library's host server both get pegged. This prevents users from accessing the Filer. The network and disk usage does not increase noticably. Does anyone else get this kind of CPU usage when backing up to a single DLT drive?
Thanks, Ferdie
