Hi Toasters,
I am getting different stories about whether it is possible to convert an existing 7-mode install of 8.2.1 into cluster mode. This HA pair has only the config that the NetApp SE installed as part of his QA when the system was first setup. We have done nothing with the machine, in particular it has no data on it. Can we convert to cDOT? Is it documented anywhere? WIll I have a supported system if I do that?
I hoping to hear from some of you that have experience with this issue.
Thanks,
Gerald (Gerry) Justice

As long as the hardware is supported by cDOT, it can be converted.
HOWEVER....it is not as simple as reloading. You need to make sure you have enough 10Gig ports (each node needs at least 2 for the cluster back end, even if you do a switchless 2-node)
You would be best served checking in with your sales team. You will need new licenses for the cDOT install. You cannot convert those, they need to be done for you. Your sales team should be able to point you to a doc that walks through the conversion.
Good luck.

Hello Gerald
Assuming the hardware is supported in cDOT (which normally it should be if it is a newish system) and you have at least 2 10 Gbe ports available then it is possible to convert from 7-mdoe to C-mode aka cDOT. There are some features which are not currently available in cDOT, the principal one is metrocluster.
That said the process is non-trivial. In fact I am a bit surprised the SE didn't default to cDOT if this is a new system.
https://kb.netapp.com/support/index?page=content&id=1013517&locale=e... on the netapp site documents the process.
You will need a fresh set of licenses for cDOT so my advice would be to contact the sales/SE who provided you with the equipment and let them assist you.
cheers Kenneth
