Good day folks, we have ordered an F740 that we will be attaching to a M80 IBM aix host. with the Filer /unix host connection, we are planning to use a GB ethernet and 100 mbps ether card, with the 100 mbps card as the backup. We are exploring the possiblity of using a single mode trunk virtual interface. we are going to hook up the filer and the host direct with out the use of a switch and this will be a local dedicated network between the filer and the host. has anybody used a similar configuration and got it to work. the problem is that the IBM host has to be able to figure out which connection it will be talking to the filer and switch to the secondary if the primary fails. we will set the ether GB card as the favored path. regards, Luis Santos Loblaws Co. We tried the same configuration between a Sun Solaris 8 box and an F760 running ONTAP 6.x. Once we upgraded to 6.x, we had no problems on the NetApp side. We never managed to get the Sun's IP network multipathing and fail-over to fail over and back properly. It did work if we put a switch between them, but not with direct cross-over connections.
