I have been using SpectraLogic 10000 (Bullfrog) with Veritas NetBackup for backups for several months. I've had very little problems with them. Configuring the Media servers and filers take a bit of time, but once that is established, there have been few problems. Occasionally I have had to reboot the filer and associated SpectraLogic, but have not been able to nail the problem down to which one is causing the problem. i'm using quickrestore (workstations solutions) to back up 3 netapps, several workstations, and some windoze boxen. i have a spectralogic 10000 hanging off my 760 and a breecehill Q2.15 hanging off one of the 520's. while there have been some issues with the backup software, workstation solutions tech support has been very respsonsive in dealing with any problems that have popped up.

i agree with mike's comments re. quickrestore. we've had a couple issues (certainly no more than one would expect with _any_ software, and actually less, i think than most), but the level of service from those folks is just outstanding. we've been very happy with them.

I run the same thing here. I have been backing up our systems using veritas netbackup 3.2 GA using a spectralogic 10000 for several months now. It was easy to set up but it seems veritas doesn't handle bad tapes well. I've had to power cycle the tape unit but other than that it runs great. Restoring is fast enough and the Bullfrog holds 40 8mm tapes so I don't have to worry about switching tapes weekly.
Linda: I once backed up our filer using veritas netbackup for NDMP. What do you need to know about backing up using NDMP?
