Mount the shares and view the NTFS permisions on the files/folders within share_1. You wont have any access to modify NTFS permissions from the CLI on the filer (only share permissions).

Dear Evan... Thanx for the reply...can you be a bit more specific as to what i need to do...let me clarify the picture to you... Im accessing the filer through the management port over ehternet, using the command line interface. I can see the cifs shares (say share_1) through "cifs shares" command, but i dont find any "ls" or "cd" command to see the user files and folders in the share_1. You are referring to setting permissions, how do i do that. OR do i need to mount the filer as a client of windows AD domain and then view the files and folders inside share_1.

If you are asking can you browse the file data of a user that resides in AD, the answer is yes, if you have the rights to do so. I am assuming you are referring to user data that resides in a CIFS share on the filer, the same rules apply to permissions (both share and NTFS) on the filer as they do in the Windows file server world.

Hello everyone... I am new to data ontap. Just wondering, is it possible for me to browse AD users' data on the storage...if yes...how??? Thanx
Or, go into priv set advanced and use ls from there...

The problem with using ls from priv set advanced is it wont show the NTFS ACE's, so for the purposes here it wouldn't be much help.

Ah yea, to work the permissions is a host side issue.
I was thinking he just wanted to list the files. Might help if I read the entire email next time. :)
