      Just wanted to follow up - does anyone have shares with significant
amounts of data and experience slow directory listings when accessing
from Mac via CIFS?

In talking with one of our desktop team folks, the specific issue
isn't due to indexing (though that is an issue, not having it..) but
specifically getting directory listings on the CIFS share from OS X is
very slow.  Windows users do not have that problem.

I don't think we would want to disable spotlight across the board.
It is useful in some cases.
