Is anyone using the Dump program that comes with Ontap? I have seen a lot of third party stuff and am wondering if anyone has seen any short falls in using this Ontap backup program?

Sure, we use it exclusively, and I imagine quite a lot of "small" sites (by the standards of this list) do as well.
If you are used to rolling your own backup scripts using the various descendants of BSD dump (e.g. Solaris ufsdump) then ONTAP dump fits in there snugly, even to the level of using a compatible format (with certain caveats).
If by "short falls" you mean "bugs", then I get the impression that there have been more in the NDMPD interface than in dump recently: that's not surprising given their relative ages.

I use the native dump program exclusively for doing my backups. I currently have two F760's, an F720, and two F230's. Current active disk space across the whole set is approximately a terra-byte. I have used the dump program with locally attached tape drives and with tape drives attached to remote servers and have never had a problem with it.
