There were (4) different 18GB disks used in the StorageShelf FC8's and FC9's:
X221A FC8 Only X221B FC8 Only X221C FC8 & FC9 X221D FC8 & FC9
A couple years ago we tested the X221A's and X221B's in FC9's for a few weeks to satisfy our own curiosity. We found no problems. We would never recommend this to a customer and it is always best to follow the guidelines listed. You should review the NetApp Disk Drive & Firmware Matrix on the NOW site. The manual says its ok to put an FC8 disk into a FC9 shelf but its not FCC compliant. Is this worth worrying about? Anybody have a chart that shows what netapp part numbers are compatible in different filers/shelves?
