I just found out this afternoon that the HW/SW support contract for our filers had expired on 12/31/1999. Hmmm, I assumed that someone would have contacted us before it expired instead of finding out while trying to download OS on the now.netapp website. To the Network Appliance Corp. readers; is there some way to find out when the support expires without contacting my sales rep? By the way, I would not trade my filers for all the money in world but this kind of nonsense makes me crazier.

Another caveat, if anyone should happen to require a new chassis (if say, a power lead decides to commit suicide for no apparent reason).. don't expect to have it fast. They're not stocked in warehouses and have to be put together and tested [at Sunnyvale - dunno if or where they do any of that in Europe]. Lead time to get one to the east coast is approx 10 hours [assuming no problems with their courier(s)].
On-site spares a/o CFO would be good things, in this case.

We bought a spare F740 chassis instead of the chassis spares kit for several reasons, two of which are: if something blows up, I don't want to waste time assembling a working head unit; and the spares kit does not include a CPU (IIRC). A good chunk of money can be saved if you can convince Netapp to sell you a chassis without any software licenses. ;-)

Disgusting to hear that this happened at your site. Fortunately, NetApp contacted us early December!

It should be your sales rep's job to do this, as part of the proper care and feeding of one's customer. It would also be nice to have NOW automatically e-mail a contact list whenever certain recurring events happen (like contract renewal).
I spent the last 3-4 months getting our web support straightened out - we have always been paid up on our maintaince, but their web site wouldn't let me get software. They also have a filer listed as ours which isn't, and last time I checked it still isn't fixed.
And let's not EVEN mention the lack of response in many of our requests to get rid of javascript off of the NOW site so we can use terminals to get support.....

Actually, I've been in contact with several people recently, and they *are* working on it. I told them to tell the list when it's done...

Oh, my appologies....
