Apologies if this is too off-topic. Still no SNIA sponsored list out there for general storage discussion that I'm aware of. :) This is more for the folks using their filers in tandem with VMware...
Am curious how you toaster admins out there are reacting to all of the new-fangled converged options (Nutanix, Simplivity -- not so much the UCS/vBlock type stuff) out there? Dipping your toes in the water to experiment? Going all in with C-Mode and sticking with your NetApps plus traditional servers? Drinking the kool-aid and going converged all the way to simplify your life? A mix of both?
No sales inquiries please!
Thanks, Ray
I did try for a SNIA list, honest, but there are too many stumbling blocks to make it happen. Setting up any new community these days is an issue, what with privacy, legal jurisdiction, insurance, spammers and so on. This is a fine offtopic topic; just keep buying NetApp :)
I'll be interested in the responses you get. I have my very own Not So Humble Opinion, but I'll keep quiet for the moment.

While its not SNIA sponsored (neither is this list), I did set-up a general storage list after discussion on this one, kindly hosted by the same people who host this list.
Its called Storage and its available for signup at storage@teaparty.net or http://teaparty.net/mailman/listinfo/storage.
I guess the message about it going live didn't get much attention, because the two 'getting things started' mails I posted got zero replies!

A mix of both for us, although we're still in the evaluation phase I believe. At the moment we run VMWare on C-Mode, and may be buying one of the options you mentioned soon (can't say what due to purchasing confidentiality etc).
I'm not one of the VMWare admins though, so I only have a cursory idea of what their plans are.
Something we are toying with is the new trend of servers that include compute and storage (a bit like the Nutanix idea), which would make scale out easier. An example is the HP SL series; http://shopping1.hp.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/WW-USSMBPublicStore-Si...
Of course, this means running it all yourself, but for some things that's and attractive idea..
