I believe you should look at the "Cleartext Password" setting, which was changed by Micro$oft from WinNT SP3.
You can use the 2 files I've attached to change the security settings on NT4 and/or win2k as needed.

For some reason one of my 2 NT boxes can see a filer, the other one can't. Hardware is identical, I can't see what registry values or versions of the NT dll's are the problem here, just that the files tells me that it can't make a TCP connection and the NT box tells me that the network path isn't found. Is there a list of registry entries that will set my CIFS and network setting correctly so I can access a filer? I really don't want to go through a complete reinstall just to get this fixed.
