IHAC (I am working for NetApp reseller) who is using quota on multiprotocol filer (6.1R1). Default quota are as following:
/etc/quotas: QUOTA_PERFORM_USER_MAPPING on /vol/vol1/home tree 300G - /vol/vol1/profile tree 5G - * user@/vol/vol1/profile 20M - * user@/vol/vol1/home 600G -
and quota reports shows:
Type ID Volume Tree Used Limit Used Limit Quota Specifier ----- -------- -------- -------- -------- -------- ------- ------- --- ------------ tree 2 vol1 home 481684 314572800 457 - /vol/vol1/home tree 1 vol1 profile 400 5242880 2 - /vol/vol1/profile user * vol1 home 0 629145600 0 - * user * vol1 profile 0 20480 0 - * user chopin vol1 home 6824 629145600 5 - user gs20787 vol1 home 3028 629145600 384 - user \chopin vol1 profile 400 20480 1 - user root vol1 home 307540 - 7 - user kvas vol1 home 4 629145600 2 - user pg23193 vol1 home 164288 629145600 54 -
So far OK. But when he is trying to change default quota for user chopin to specific one:
chopin user@/vol/vol1/home 1G -
quota resize does not work:
quota resize: warning: /etc/quotas:6: skipping new entry
Of course quota off/on can be workaround but it lasts over 15 minutes so admin does not want to accept it. It can be an issue with user mapping because without QUOTA_PERFORM_USER_MAPPING=on quota resize seems to work as expected. Is it be a bug or I overlooked something in configuration?
Best regards,

Please see burt 51588.
When using the QUOTA_PERFORM_USER_MAPPING directive with default user quotas and a user account is not explicitly mentioned in the /etc/quotas file, you will get separate user quota records for the user's unix account and windows account. That is why the quota report shows an entry for chopin and \chopin. Use quota report -x to see the full windows account name.
If you add an explicit entry for chopin and do a resize, with the directive, it will try to create a new multi-user entry to consider unix chopin and windows <whatever domain user chopin maps to>\chopin as one user, subject to the given quota. But resize cannot create new entries, so the line is skipped.
For this case, you need to do a quota off/quota on.
