is there any way of blocking certain file types from being saved to my filer. Prime examples: .mpeg, .mp3, .mov

Funny you should ask that, I was just working on a project to do the same thing. We were looking at 3rd party SRM software to do that.

Hi Paul,
There is a software compatible w/ NetApp. It's called StorageCentral SRM, and it's from Precise!, which was recently bought by Veritas. See here : http://www.veritas.com/products/category/ProductDetail.jhtml?productId=S torageCentralSRM
It runs on Windows platform, and can interact with Data Ontap 6.4 file screening capabilities. Though, like the anti-virus scanning for NetApp, I would recommend you to have the "file screening" server connected at Gigabit speed to prevent bottlenecks.
