Is anybody using GB in a 740 Filer?
The config on now says I can use a X1027B but somebody told me this card doesn't work??

Yup. Works pretty good actually. slot 8: Gigabit Ethernet Controller II e8 MAC Address: 00:90:27:xx:xx:xx (auto-1000sx-fd-up) Device Type: Rev 3 memory mapped I/O base 0x84000000, size 0x20000

Anything specifically wrong with it ? maybe it was connected to a Dell powerconnect switch....

X1025B is optical (sysconfig GigE II) The X1027 is the copper card for F700 series (sysconfig GigE III) There are plenty of these cards available.
Also, X1027B is a copper, for F800 and above
