We added two shelves of disks to a FAS960 pair and hit the raw capacity limit, so we had to pull some disks to get back under the limit. (The configuration guide is somewhat vague about the max capacity and it turned out to be less than we expected.)
It has been suggested that we use some of these disks temporarily in a non-netapp system, but we will eventually want to turn them back into netapp spares. Personally I'm not keen on this idea. I am afraid that using them in a non-netapp system will scribble over labels and other data peculiar to netapp disks, making them unrecognizable as spares. Is this true? And if so, is there any way to reformat/relabel a disk to make it a netapp spare again? These are 750G SATA disks, by the way.
