Hi
Does anybody has already used a samba server as PDC for a filer ?
We actually use samba servers with LDAP (openldap) authentication and I wonder if it would be possible to use a filer in such configuration ? Actually PCs use samba servers as PDC, the samba servers use NFS to store user's data thru NFS mounts. I know it is far to be the best configuration and I would like to let PC users use SMB directly to the filer using samba servers as PDC only.
infos welcome.
Thanks a lot
unfortunatelly, this is not possible, u can't integrate a Filer in a samba domain.
the reson is a slight difference in the way names are exchanged
i forget the exact reason, it's a lack of support on Netapp side
try to search back in the toaster archive may help you

I did not try it myself but there is KB article on NOW:
----------
Solution ID: ntapcs7632 Title: Does NetApp officially support Samba as a supported protocol? NetApp filer
Problem Description: Does NetApp officially support Samba as a supported protocol?
Fix: NetApp currently supports CIFS clients, including all flavors of Windows, DAVE from Thursby, the new client in Apple's version 10 OS, and others, including Samba.
Note that if a CIFS transaction between the filer and a non-Windows host fails, while the same transaction is successful between a Windows host, suspicion should be drawn first to the client, rather than the filer. This is because our NetApp's first priority is to be compatible with Windows host.

I hope this helps.

Eyal Traitel from NetApp pointed me that mentioned KB article concerned only Samba as client, not PDC...
