Depends on what you are doing...
If you need to quickly provision LUNs or connect to snapshot versions of them, it's very useful. If you need to take a snapshot (consistent snapshot) of a filesystem, it's almost impossible to live without.
If you never intend to back up a LUN (snapshot) or mount many, you may not need it.
