RE: Replacing a SCSI cable - toasters

      Is that really safe?  I was always taught never to connect or disconnect a
SCSI cable on a powered-up system due to the possibility of damaging the
SCSI controller, and I've actually seen that happen on a sparcstation once.
Do the netapps and the tape drives have some additional technology that
allows hot-swapping the scsi cable?

    You can hot swap the cable. I would sure no backup jobs are running
on the Netapp and if you are using NDMP make sure you turn it off (ndmpd
off) before swapping cables. It should work fine.

what is the current recommendation as far as replacing a SCSI cable
connecting the filer and the tape library?  Does filer need to be
rebooted, or is it safe to hot-swap the cable?
