We started creating user accounts with their home folders on the filer 720. But the new users are unable to set the environment as they login. The problem is the terminal doesnot read the .profile in the home folder though .profile exists and the user owns it. But when we remsh to some other system or the same system the .profile is working. When the user logs in from the Xterm this problem occurs. Please let us know what is the problem.

If you mean that when you open an xterm window, the users' .profile isn't being read, then you need to add the "-ls" parameter to the xterm command. This tells xterm to startup as if it were a Login Shell and will read all startup info.
