OK let me spell check and read my email before I send it this time. I had a power outage during a disk firmware upgrade. I now cant get the drives to spin up. Is there a way to force a Firmware upgrade besides the disk_fw_update. Thanks

I had a power outage during a upgrade on firmware. (I know UPS is your best friend) Well I know cant get the drives to spin up. Is there a was to force a Firmware upgrade besides the disk_fw_update. Thanks
have you tried booting into maintanence mode and trying disk_fw_update_fix? it was developed to fix the problem of certain (seagate 18G HH) drives not spinning up after a power cycle. or the simulated power cycle that firmware upgrades entail.
IIRC, disk_fw_update_fix does a low level walk of the disk's chips and resets things. i've used it to "resurrect" disks that went away.
another thing might be to put one of the bad drives into another filer and disk_fw_update on that filer. you'd have to do them one by one (assuming you only have one spare drive bay on the second filer), but that might allow you to fix the drives.
good luck. -- email: lance_bailey@pmc-sierra.com box: Lance R. you could be able to start the filer in booting the system with the previous firmware grace to a switch the switch is located on the mother board so you would have to open the filer drawer, identify the switch and move it then close the drawer and start the filer again
i already saw such a switch, in my mind it was written close to it that it was a switch in relation with the firmware
but i can't tell you what you should expect exactly
what can you see on the screen when you start the filer ? if you see things you never saw before, then follow my instruction and what netapp support says if you see normal things until the filer try to start disk, then you could perhaps start the filer from floppies : make the boot floppy corresponding to your filer and your data ontapp version then enter the diag menu, then type halt : you are on the ok prompt here you can try update-flash, then power off then on the filer
try to contact the netapp support, they certainly can help you
