gear isn't on support because money
i could upgrade it, i'm just not going to, without support - had too many upgrades go sideways in the past, requiring intervention from support

all the SAS shelves brand new though, so should have latest firmware, but i'll double check.
Hear that. You would be safe going to any 8.0/8.1 release. There are significant changes in 8.2 that could be problematic.
At least make sure all disk firmware, shelf firmware and the Disk Qual Package are updated on your system.
Even though it is *new* it could still have older firmware!
