If I worked for someone who thought my politics was important I would change my job. On the other hand I have always had toasters going to my personal account.
I just see choosing any domain name for this type of discussion base with a political, religious, racist, or sexist connotation to be simply that of extremely poor judgment. Different cultures within different countries all have "topics" which are considered poor manners and bad taste in polite company and this domain name should have really should have been avoided altogether. We are discussing NetApp configurations and best practices, not "right/left winged" politics and should not even be part of the discussion.
As for the comment about politics being important to a company, I think one forgets that you subscribe to the boundaries of a company's culture which is generally to remain neutral so not to offend other employees. If you do not like a specific race, political structure, etc, you are welcome to have those beliefs but not necessarily actively participate or campaign them on corporate time. Many people fail to understand that you, as a corporate employee, tend not to own their systems, their networks, their storage, their email system, etc. These emails, while not 100% focused on such banter, might be viewed to be political in nature and unwelcomed. Granted, TeaParty may also not be offensive to a large majority of the population but to what part of the spectrum would it be 'not ok'? How about commiepigs.net or nazimilitants.net. While these example are the obvious, it is the subtle ones such as teaparty which in that subjective gray area of taste and thus really should not have been used in the first place.
After so many years, I too will be leaving this list as NetApp has growing blog presence on their NOW sites.

Seems kind of silly to me, nazi.net or commie.net etc have only a single (and essentially orginal meaning). Tea parties have existed long before the US revolution. It's like saying we should not use the color red (because of communists!) green (another political party), yellow or black (both of which could offend some racial groups.
If you are over sensitive to things like this you end up legitimizing it more than it's worth.
Next we'll need to stop using the toasters name because it offends those for whom alcoholic beverages are anathema.

I agree that a better domain name/hosting/whatever could have been chosen.
What I find interesting is that an EDU wouldn't be forward thinking enough to understand this situation.
I know a few suggestions have been made, but if we can accept the fact that somebody made a "questionable" choice in hosting, I feel the resources on this list are valuable enough to get creative and find another option than leaving and asking to be alerted.
Sincerely, --johnk

All you that "disagree" with the choice of hosting....have you cared to read through this thread? or even visit teaparty.net? the first blurb says it all:
If this is anything, it's the (minimalist) home page of Tom Yates. What it isn't is anything to do with the US's astroturfed Tea Party movement .... My teaparty affiliations are all from the Mad Hatter's tea party, instead.

In certain environments, I could see that certain people may have a legal or moral right to look at your email messages, or at logs of what email domains send you messages, but do you really think someone is going to a) notice this, b) make the "wrong" assumption about what it means, c) care, and d) say something to you to which you'd have to explain something?
I don't know what kind of environment you work in, but that seems like a stretch to me. And do you really care about explaining yourself to someone who would jump to such a conclusion so quickly? And further, haven't you ever heard of a personal email account, unrelated to your workplace, at which you could receive emails without the knowledge of anyone at $WORKPLACE?
My politics are about as far from the tea party as it's possible to get, but I really don't see how this is a legitimate concern.

Reasonably, it isn't acceptable that this was a questionable move at all.

I think it's insulting to say the choice was questionable. Tea Party, for me, while I'm aware of the political movement and everything distasteful about it, primarily reminds me of one of my favourite bands ever (a Canadian now-disbanded 90s rock group). For other's, it's Lewis Carroll. And a million other things besides. Let's not allow the phrase "tea party" to be owned by some extreme American right-wingers, and be grateful that someone is willing to host this incredibly useful GLOBAL resource.

It is obvious that for some people this move, or the domain name, something for that particular person, is questionable. This has been voiced. There isn't any point on debating rather it is questionable or not. The move is done and everyone understands that this domain isn't political.
We can address this directly (and at this point the thread should just die) or continue with the silly banter.
