Hope you can help...
I've read TIP 218 on the now.netapp web site...
But it is not very clear on how the %used column is calculated. When it says the calculation is carried out like below
this snapshop ------------------- x 100 Total disk space in the system
Is the "Total disk space in the system" the
1) Total disk space in the volume(inc snapshot reserve)... or 2) total disk space in the snapshot reserve ... or 3) total disk space in the volume after snapshot reserve is taken !
I think this is a VERY counter intuitive method of displaying space used ....
Thanks

Hope I get this right . . ..
The used column's first number shows cumulative space consumed by snapshots as a percentage of disk space being used in the volume:
cumulative snapshot space ------------------------- (cumulative snapshot space used + active filesystem space used)
The second number is the same thing except it's not cumulative, it just shows the space consumed by that specific snapshot:
this snapshot ------------- (this snapshot + active filesystem space used)
For example: This volume is %55 full. This snapshot accounts for %13 of that.
The total column's first number shows cumulative space consumed by snapshots as a percentage of total disk space (space used + space available):
cumulative snapshot space ------------------------- total disk space in this volume
Second number isn't cumulative:
this snapshot ------------- total disk space (used and free) in this volume
"total disk space in this volume" means the total size of the volume, and has nothing to do with whatever your snapshot reserve is set to.
For example: This snapshot is consuming 14% of the total volume space. Again, total volume space is constant no matter what your reserve is set to.
