hi,
is anybody running zimbra mail groupware with Netapp storage?
Do you have any tips on how to backup up zimbra using snapshots?
We are now using zmbackup/zmrestore to a nfs volume, but that is not really very efficient nor fast. I was wondering if any of you has implemented a better solution.
Thanks in advance.

We've been running Zimbra on NetApp for quite a number of years now. Started with 7-mode, switched to c-mode in 2014.
Production is all FC LUNs to RHEL servers. Which we FlexClone for test/dev and restores (all via iSCSI). We also SnapVault to a secondary location (access via iSCSI). We do daily snapshots, most times they are fine. Occasionally the snapshot isn't consistent, so we have to go back a day. But that's fairly rare. We don't quiesce the filesystem or make use of SnapDrive.
Feel free to contact me if you want to discuss more.

There's a good Community thread of how to use SnapCreator for this purpose: http://community.netapp.com/t5/Backup-and-Restore-Discussions/Snapcreator-an...

hi all,
Thanks for your answers, they are very reassuring.
We use snapprotect and our zimbra host is a vmware vm on a nfs datastore, so if I understand correctly, we can just back it up using the vmware media agent and for restores we can create a new vm from the snapshot and restore from there. Every now and then this could fail because the vm was not in a consistent space, but your experience is that is mostly works
Mark, what do you mean exactly by 'restore back to the maildrop'? Sorry for newbie question, but I have not used zimbra so long.
Thanks again. I hope these questions are not too OT for the list.
