I've just completed a direct connect private network connection between a Sun Fire V880 and my Filer FAS 940 for running Oracle over. I used the Sun Fire's 10/100 Copper and told the Filer to use FD/100. I've still got to verify the Sun "negotiated" appropriated with the Filer's NIC.
What is your favorite rip snortin performance test writing to a Filer mount?
I ran a ufsudmp of /usr and here are the numbers I was getting in sysstat. Comparable to what any of you have gotten best case?

very good performance
on unix, you can try use sar : sar -A 1 10 (means display 10 statistics every 1 sec) or other option (sar -n DEV 1 10 on linux)
in theory 100Mb/s => 12,500 Kb/s you have around 9,500 this is good (less than 6,000 it could be a problem)

Well, if you are curious about max speeds, you can just run mkfile as well.... this is handy. You can run a bunch of them and backround them if you want as well. This doesn't test reading/writing lots of small files, but it's a test worth looking at.
