Hi, We routinely cleanup snapshots via filerview and recently started using flexclones, which show up in the snapshot view as ³busy,vclone Busy² For this volume there are similarly named snapshots listed as ³normal² We¹d like to delete those to reclaim the space, but want confirmation they are not going to affect the mounted vclone(flexclone) volumes. Basically I am asking will filerview prevent me from deleting these snapshots if they are associated with an actively mounted flexclone? (
Thanks
Long story, but could be a couple things.
Do you show any luns that are not in an igroup and is apart of that vol? Also, if your server does verifies and was rebooted during a verify, will most likely be a mounted lun that was never properly removed.
Is the cloning you doing for exchange, or MS SQL?

Yes, sir. That's what busy means. Even if there was a bug in FilerView, the filer won't let you delete the backing snapshot until all dependent clones are split or deleted.

For programatic removal of the snaps, I recommend utilizing a Snap Autodelete configuration on the volumes that you need to delete the "normal" snapshots from. It has options that allow you to remove those before the busy ones.

That option would work, but if you are running an app like Exchange or SQL, the delete of the snapshot is not application aware, so beware of setting the option via filerview. Hey Fletcher!
I don't know what filerview will do, but if you try to use the command line to delete a snapshot that is backing a flexclone, it will return with an error along the lines of "unable to delete, snapshot in use". I don't know if filerview will make the attempt and then return the error, or will just prevent the attempt in the first place. I suspect the former but I've never used filerview, always the command line.
On the other hand, if you're trying to remove the "normal" snapshots, you should be able to do that without any problems. Whether you get space back depends on what is contained on those snapshots, and what blocks the filer needs to keep around to maintain integrity for the remaining snapshots.
