Humm.. I was visiting PDC's web site to see if there was any new info about the migration of Budtool (will be EOL'd Jan 2001), and noticed the one year mark for the beginning of their migration program has passed :
http://www.pdc.com/BTMigration.html
Still am unable to find out anything - has anyone else? Wondering if they're ignoring everyone or just us...

Regarding that webpage (for those of you who haven't opened it yet)... They give no real information. It contains nothing but a lot of gibberish to be managerial-buzzword compliant.
The given one-year mark is vague and PDC probably has government contracts with 36-months-to-expire-the-product clauses in them.

I was called in late March or early April and informed that PDC was EOL'ng Budtool. I was assured that we would continue to receive support for 18 (I think) months after they officially announced the EOL date. They could not give me that date at that time.
I asked what they had in mind for a NDMP-based backup solution, and the guy reverted to the standard "I'm just a messenger, I don't have that information." (paraphrased, of course).
Since then, I haven't heard a thing from them.

Yea, I loved it too - so many words and nothing said ;p

Humm. Hadn't thought of that.

Yup. I started the "qest for a quote" back in Feb. when I found out it'd be EOL'd. I am still trying to get an answer. After speaking with the PDC rep, I then heard from a "Product Marketing Manager" from legato who told me they'd have something soon (back in march). I asked again at the end of April and was told, in effect, not to bother him and he'd get it to me when he had it. Actually in his words:
There is alot of detail to organize and training, etc. I do appreciate your patience. But its really best to give us some time. Its really best to do this right. I would hate to send out a Systems Engineer who does have materials and training to do the job!.......
Not that I asked for an engineer or anything - Just a quote to find out what the costs would be to migrate to Legato. <Sigh..>
I hate to have to ask for $10K or so for new backup software, but on the other hand, we have 7 months before we're stuck with a defunct product and 2 years of empty migration promises...
<end of flame>
