OK, I'm not sure this is entirely appropriate for this list, but here goes:
I'm getting a new F720, and I just realized I need to get a rack for it. The F330's we have were already here when I joined the company, and the guy who purchased them has since left the company. In looking through his files, I haven't been able to find reference to where he purchased the racks.
Does anyone know of a good source for sturdy racks? It looks like they take the standard 19" racks; can anyone confirm or deny that? How much should I expect to spend?
Thanks a lot! Charles Homan

If you want a slightly offbeat alternative to the usual boring 19" racks, check with your local restaurant supply stores for "baker's racks". We found some very sturdy racks with adjustable shelves that way. Plenty of room for our 520s and their disk shelves and tape drives, though they do have a significantly bigger footprint than the 19" stuff.
I'd recommend purchasing from Anixter at 800-221-2643. You'll want the heavy duty Chatsworth Aluminum rack - pick your color, grey, black or brushed aluminum (aka clear).
Pricing should be under $200.
Alternativly, Chatsworth has a really nice enclosed unit call the Megaframe with locking doors which will keep people away from your cables. With fans and power strip, pricing is around $2500.

Clear? Did Scotty finally invent transparent aluminum? :)

Yes, they fit in 19" racks, but make sure you get one at least 30" deep. I just put two F740 in a 24" rack and they're hanging out the back waiting for someone to accidentally pull out a cable. (New racks are being delayed until our data center expansion is complete...) We got some of our racks from Wrightline (nice -- expensive) and some from Ergotron (not bad).

(Hey Charles, what's up man!!!)
Jason, did you know that the F700 series have removeable/adjustable rabbit ears? You could remove the screws holding it in place and then mid-mount, or even rear-mount the filer so it does not protrude back as far....it will just stick out foward, which in some cases may be better anyways....

If you are using racks (instead of cabinets), make sure you give yourself enough clearance 'round back to fully extended the motherboard tray (i.e., double the depth of the chassis). If you are using equipment cabinets and you have enough room to fully swing open the rear door, you should be set.
We are replacing our 19" racks with 24"x36" (WxD, outside dimensions) cabinets. The extra depth gives you lots of room for things like filers, Sun E450 servers, big Cisco gear, etc. plus maneuvering room for power strips and cable raceways. The Netapps hum away nicely, hidden behind smoked Lexan. :)
