Hello,
In relation to the recent threads on max inodes and max dir size I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the limit on the number of LUNs in a filer?
Kind regards,
Try this document. It seems pretty comprehensive, written in Feb 2007.

Thanks Adam,
I read in this document that the max LUNs for my filer is 1024 however it then goes on to say LUN's contained in snapshot copies do not count towards this limit. Does this mean if I have a volume with one LUN, I then take a snapshot of that volume and then clone new LUNs from the original LUN that I can have more than 1024 LUNs?
If not is there any way to increase this number?
Kind regards,
I don't think so, although you may want to confirm with tech support. I think once you clone a lun or create a snapshot-backed lun, that would count against the total. But just having the lun in a shapshot would not count. But I could be wrong here as this is not really one of my areas of expertise.

Do you know if this is still a limitation in OnTAP GX as I cannot seem to find the information about this, or does anyone running GX know what the LUN limitations are?
Take care,
The current release of ONTAP GX does not support LUNs. And before you ask, you'll need to talk to your sales teams about when it will.
