Hi All,
what is the best practice to create Luns in cmode (netapp)version 9.4p2..
by creating qtree and then on top of it creating luns (which will have options to change the security style..ntfs or unix)
/vol/abc_vol/luns/dblog (by creating qtree "luns") OR vol/abc_vol/dblog (without creating qtree "luns")..
just creating the luns without using qtree's in the path given..
Regards Yuvaraj
Are you planning to use quotas on the LUNs or not? If you are, use qtrees, but if you aren’t they aren’t really necessary.

Hi Anthony,
we are not using quota's but in lun's no need to restrict the size of the lun's through quota's right...as user can not exceed, once available space is completely utilized.
once user occupied all the lun size then we would go for extending the same...(even without using quotas)..

Hi Yuvaraja,
Only thing that comes to my mind regarding quotas and LUNs would be:
Soft quotas and reporting for thin provisioned (non space-reserved) LUNs.
QTrees could also be used to sort LUNs in a volume which need to be snapshotted simultaneously, e.g. same host(-cluster) or same application...
The security style doesn't affect LUNs...
My 2 cents
Sebastian
