I need to complete technical documentation for a filer I'm currently installing and I'm a little perplexed on how to approach it. Because of the "Appliance" style of the device, its not as easy to create a detailed document as your typical Wintel/*nix server.
If anyone has a template they use/have used to document a filer install/configuration I would be most thankful.
Personally, I would treat it as you would a unix box. It has most unix-like commands (man pages, syslog, network interface information). A good unix admin would be able to survive with the command reference pdf alone. My opinion is that if you went through the command reference and wrote down the most important commands (let's say the ones used in the last 120 days) you'd have a good start.
On top of that, list tech support numbers, subscription lists (like this one), and everything you would for a normal system. And make sure autosupport is on!
