I connected a Magstar 3590 tape drive to the external SCSI port on an F760 running DataONTAP 6.02, and have been having trouble getting the filer to do more than recogize the tape's existence. The drive is recognized when I execute "mt -f nrst0a status", and shows up as I'd expect in "sysconfig -t", but any other tape operation fails. When I execute any "mt" command (including "status") I get the follownig error on the console: " [...:tape_admin:error]: tape 0.0: doesn't support compression page". I've tried mt with rewind and offline, and both fail. Attempting a dump yields a message that the tape is not writeable or is broken, and requests a new one.
I've tried this with two different 3590 drives, two different SCSI cables, and three different tapes. I've also cycled through the different tape deivces (rst0a, urst0h, nrst0l, etc.) with no change. Anyone have an idea of what else I could try to get the tape drive and the F760 to get along?
