Toasters,
My DBA just came to me and complained that a Ora RAC 10g build took 18 hours when using a Filer NFS mount. Seems I've heard of this issue before but forget the fix. Has someone seen this before ?
TIA
-Rob
Eric Gross, our head of database automation, posted something about that a while back:

Hope this helps, Matt

Hi all,
We are looking to implement jumbo frames on our filers in order to help the throughput of ISCSI. We have a number of Windows boxes using the MS software ISCSI initiator, and we also have a number of VMware ESX 3.5 servers also using the VMware ISCSI initiator.
And hence have a few questions about jumbo frames:
Will this help with ISCSI performance ?
What about CIFS clients, will we need to change on those machines ?
Does anybody else have any words of wisdom that would help ?
Any yes I know should be using NFS but I don't have a license for it yet L
Thanks
Matt

Usually, yes. It will help iSCSI performance if you have I/O which is over 2k in size. Since Windows by default uses a 4k block size, this is usually the case.

If at all possible, see if you van seperate your iSCSI traffic from CIFS traffic by using different interfaces.

Jumbo needs to be supported end-to-end, which means that all equipment in the path from the NetApp up to the NIC in your server need to support this. On el-cheapo servers and switches, this is not always the case.

This may be argued for VMWare, but obviously not for the Windows boxes :)
Hi,
Is anyone using widelinks on GX?
We're having real issues getting the functionality working despite it being a breeze on 7G, even once we realised the syntax in the user guide was incorrect (which is acknowledged in the release notes for 10.0.3).
Netapp are looking at this for us, but I thought I'd try this avenue too!
thanks, Darren
I am using widelinks on our GX system (10.2.PX) and it's functioning just fine on our end. Any specifcs about the problem you are seeing? Maybe I can help.
Thanks,
