Sure. We have all kinds of script to take snapshots, delete older snapshots, record statistics, etc.

It can be a little safer if you run the script from a safe machine that has the filer:/vol/root/etc mounted, so that you can put the safe machine name in .rhosts, run the script, then remove .rhosts.
