While you can find place to stay within walking distance, there is not that much else to do within walking distance.

The really nice thing though is the Light Rail: http://www.vta.org/schedules/light_rail_schedules.html

It can take you to downtown Mountain View (good food, used book store, etc) or San Jose.

You might also pick a place based off of whether is is within walking distance of the light rail.
