Hi Toasters,

after we had a change in our infrastructure we used the downtime for updating our ontap on two filers which were still running with Ontap 6.5.4 (we updatet to 7.0.4P9).

After the change we had a strange problem, that snapdrive on a few systems was no longer able see some disks (Luns on the filer we changed the Ontap on). In the Application Log we had strange error Messages saying:

Failed to get Data Ontap version running on the filer "nafiler".

or

The IP Adress "192.168.1.45" specified as preffered, is dead.

or

Filer does not have a live IP address. Filer ID "192.168.1.45 + 10.192.168.45". Filer Host Name ".

The cause of all these problems was that the service account which was used for snapdrive was exactly 20 letters long. As i learned with Snapdrive later than 3.1 it is a problem to have serviceaccountnames for SD with 20 or more letters.

As we used this accountname for about 1 year i wonder if this is not true for Ontap 6.5.4 or if we only were lucky to had it work with this accountname.

Anyway, i just wanted to inform you about this issue. Perhaps anybody runs into the same problem and wonders about the strange error message :-)
