I've never seen any problems with pulling and re-attchting console ports.

Hi all -
I need to move the serial console on my 530 and 740 filers. Basically, the console ports on the filers go to a pair of Wyse terminals. We need to move the Wyse terminals few feet, and that will require disconnecting and rerouting the serial cables. I've never disconnected the console while the filer is up and running. Will this crash the filer, or cause any problems? I know that some Sun servers crash when the console is disconnected, and I'd like to avoid that if at all possible.
Thanks in advance for your help,

fwiw, two days ago my F760 froze while i was working over console. i was in the middle of issuing a snapmirror initialize command over console and it just froze. couldn't get console back, couldn't telnet in, couldn't rsh commands to it, nothing. and yet its cluster partner said it was fine. i had to get remote hands to power cycle it and its shelves. my tech told me the console cable was "loose" was then unable to console in by other means.
we use a Cyclades-Z card attached to serial port expander boards and Conserver.
it's still a mystery. we didn't get it to dump core. it came back up fine and is still behaving. maybe it was just the phase of the moon..
