Does anybody have any experience of this product who would like to share thier knowledge in how it compares with the Filers ? According to Veritas this product turns a SPARC based computer system into high performance NT and UNIX storage server. At the moment it is only available for Sparc based systems.
Thx and Regards Riasat
I do not have any experience with this product, but I do know about it. I am not sure if it will really compare with the Filer. That is only one of it's functions.
In Short, the Storage Appliance will take legacy Disk (JBOD, sun storage, or whatever old outdated storage you have) and will raid protect it. That Raid protected storage will presented to a SAN via Fibre or NAS via the network.
There are some neat things that you can do with it at this point. Just to name one, your backups will be on this storage appliace which means that you do not affect your hosts performace (SAN or NAS). I bet this will work well with NetBackup. (just a hunch)
BTW: The CIFS is served with samba and the NFS is will the Solaris stock.

If you want to know more, then I will have to pull out my notes.
