Hello,
I had to change root's password on FAS3270 and noticed that OnTAP 8.1.1 is OK with 23 characters long password (including spaces), but SP cuts it to 17 characters. I couldn't find any relevant document explaining this behavior.
Is it expected? Maybe a bug?
SP filer*> version Booted primary firmware version 1.3.1 Primary firmware version 1.3.1 Backup firmware version 1.2.3
Cheers, Vladimir
Correction: SP cuts it to *16* characters.

Hi Vladimir,
FWIW, this has always been the case and I've also stumbled over that once in the past (also documented in a thread here in the list). Also Dell iDRAC Remote Console does truncate the password silently to 16 characters, so maybe that's one fancy limitation of those remote control boards used by multiple vendors?

It could only guess that it's some sort of Marvell based controller is used by NetApp:
system mpc version - Displays the Marvell prom controller firmware version system mpc update - Performs an update of the Marvell prom controller firmware
