Robert,
Per the system admin guide:
Host no buffer: The number of times the driver could not allocate a buffer and a packet is dropped. This might happen when the filer is very busy. If the count increases continually, it might indicate that a software component is not returning buffers.
I assume you have a call open, since you have changed the NIC. Please work with the support centre on this.
Questions that occur to me are: Which ONTAP release are you running? Is the filer running at very high CPU when the network problem occurs? Are you monitoring the filer with MRTG or similar to see patterns of CPU and network usage?
Regards, Andrew

I am looking for some advice on one of the outputs from the ifstat command in ontap. when I run ifstat e4 (Gigabyte II card) I see the following
RECEIVE Packets: 36865k | Bytes: 12517m | Errors: 0 CRC: 0 | Bad length: 0 | Undersize: 0 Fragment: 0 | Oversize: 0 | Jabber: 0 FIFO overflow: 0 | NIC no buffer: 0 | Host no buffer: 65562 Queue overflow: 0 | Xon: 0 | Xoff: 0 Unknown flow ctl: 0 | Broadcast: 48933 | Multicast: 0 Jumbo: 0 TRANSMIT Packets: 49391k | Bytes: 50119m | Errors: 0 Oversize: 0 | Queue overflow: 0 | Timeout: 0 Broadcast: 3507 | Multicast: 7 | Jumbo: 0 LINK INFO Auto (learned): off | Media type: 1000sx-fd | Link state: up Flow control: full
The entry I am interested in is the Host no buffer: 65562. Is this a form of error?, should I be worried about it. The reason I ask is that from time to time our filer drops off the network altogher. Sometimes it comes back, sometimes it needs a power off and back on. We have tried installing a replacement netword card to no avail.
Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated..
