i have a filer on 7.2.4 with a very large volume size of 12164g. i need to do some loop reorginzation and want to snapmirror it off to a newer filer running 7.3 and then delete it to free up space for some other volume migrations and shelf swaps. when all is said and done i want to put this volume back. so the question is will i be able to snapmirror it back from 7.3 to 7.2.x?
Would highly recommend that the newer Filer be running 7.2.x.px (some as older Filer. Reduces i whole heap of problems/gotachs

Snapmirror destination must be the same or higher release. Therefore, when you bring it back, it will be 7.3

Minor note: qtree snapmirror, being a "logical" replication, can go from older to newer versions (including 7.3.x to 7.2.x).
Volume SnapMirror does indeed need the secondary to be at the same or higher, so you would need to upgrade ONTAP for this to work....

Absolutely right Mike! Thanks.
I figured volume snapmirror was implied, but there was no direct mention either way.
