Matt,
Yep, that's what we've found too, and I've logged a feature request. We planned to use a pagefile datastore which was snapmirrored less frequently and not snapshotted. However, SMVI can't really handle that (unless you kludge it with independent disks) but Vibe has no problem doing so.
The problem for me is that Vibe is free and although less polished has the same, if not more functionality than SMVI.

When, times ago (before the official announcement of SMVI), I've asked to NetApp representative here in Italy news about VIBE they answered me that i san internal tools to be used only for PS projects (and so to be payed by customer). So that no way to get it.
Here is stated that's a free tool. Where?
Thanks,

On the description page you get the following info though...
Important: VIBE is for implementation and use by Professional Services and Authorized Professional Services Partners only. It has not been tested by the Review team.

Thanks everyone for your feedback, to be honest I wasn't aware VIBE, I've been using the script that appeared in one of the netapp documents last year. And although it seems to work, troubleshooting it when it goes wrong isn't that easy. At the present moment I'm trying to simplify the environment, so was looking for something that is supported by a 3rd party, so I don't have to worry about it.
It seems like SMVI will do the job and although it has some way to go, it does what it says on the tin.

Yes, I should have said that VIBE isn't a supported product by Netapp so SMVI is the best option now it's been released, assuming you can deal with the limitations and cost.
With regard to SMVI - you'll also need to make sure that VMWare tools and running and are up to date. We've had a few machines that were running older versions of the tools lose network connectivity when the backup is initiated by SMVI.

Yes, great thread :-) As told before past year PS from NetApp Italy told me "you cannot get VIBE, is only for us" (I heard of it reading on news by VMWorld 2007) now is on NOW site and for free.
I've just read the manual and I'm going to test it at some customer site but, with my experience with scripting, rsh command, VMs to be paused or stopped and so on I think that VIBE will surely be better. It seems that customers in this way can save money without SMVI and give it us for professional services based on VIBE ;-)
