vscan options mandatory_scan off
This option will allow CIFS clients to access requested files without scanning if there are no scanners available. I'm not sure of all them implications of having it on though. You may want to do nightly full scans from the scanning host if you have the mandatory scan off, just in case there was an intermittent failure during the day and some files got infected.

We have TrendMicro Server Protect for NetApp. It's okay, but I'm worried about the reliablity. Is there a way to have a filer turn of virus scanning if there are no longer any registered Anti-Virus scanners? We had the TrendMicro service fail during a dat update and nobody was able to read or write from the Filer until I got in that morning and realized what was going on.
