Anyone hear anything about the status of the 72 gig disks? We're trying to plan for the upcoming year whether we want to get more disks (18's & 36's), new disks (72's), more filers, etc. A quick search of NOW didn't turn anything up.

We just got a tray of them! They're not running yet, so I have nothing to report.

Try "Disk Support Matrix & Firmware" and you'll find
| Drive Part Descriptions Sysconfig -v Output Firmware Rev. ... | Number (Download) | | X226A/ SP-226A SEA 72 GB HH FCAL NETAPP X226_ST173404FC NA02 (latest) ... | 10K rpm "Cheetah 4" | | X232A/ SP-232A SEA 72 GB HH FCAL NETAPP X232_ST173404FC NA23 (latest) ... | 10K rpm "Cheetah 4" | (520BPS)
for FC9 shelves, supported at release 6.0.1R1 (i.e. just out the door). Also the 6.0.1R1 "Start Here" has a table showing that "72GB" discs are 68000 MB after right-sizing.

A few things I've seen...
1) They format to 68GB... minus 10% for FS... minus snapshots... etc. (Important for planning)
2) They are not listed in the drop down when creating a generic volume in the GUI (at least in 5.3.6 - don't know about 6.x). Therefore, you can't just tell it to create a volume of, say, seven 72GB drives. This can still be done by creating the volume with the option to specify disks. (Just an annoyance that will most likely be fixed in future releases)
Not great info, but it's a place to start.
