With DFM it is possible to configure an SNMP trap, email or pager alert for a two thresholds (Nearly Full and Full thresholds). And these thresholds are configurable from DFM.

Another thing which came into my mind is the use of DFM (Data Fabric Manager).

This is a tool from Netapp and has the ability to collect a lot of information from your filers and present them via a web-interface and can sent out mails as well.

the filer does send out two snmp-traps for volume occupancy. One at 95% and one at 98%. You can define a snmp-traphost which collects the messages.

But you are still in a need to have a tool that collects this traps (like nagios does).

If you want to use this for users you can also work with quotas, but this only works with qtrees.
