Since our filers are used for a document management system, backups (snapshots/snapmirror) are controlled by a host script which coordinates CIFS shares and Oracle DB backups, and DR transfers. Now, I've setup a general CIFS share (ie: a junk drawer) which uses "snap sched" for hourly/daily/weekly snapshots and snapmirror.conf to schedule snapmirror to a DR site.
Q) When the snapmirror is broken and the DR copy of the share is in use, will the snap sched kick in and start working automatically, or does something need done for the DR site for the snap sched to start working?
Thanks
Rick

If the snapmirror is broken, and you are using the DR site, the script will fail. To put it all back to the original, if you want the DR destination to be consistent on the source, you would have to reverse the replication, break, and resynch.

Since our filers are used for a document management system, backups (snapshots/snapmirror) are controlled by a host script which coordinates CIFS shares and Oracle DB backups, and DR transfers. Now, I’ve setup a general CIFS share (ie: a junk drawer) which uses “snap sched” for hourly/daily/weekly snapshots and snapmirror.conf to schedule snapmirror to a DR site.
Q) When the snapmirror is broken and the DR copy of the share is in use, will the snap sched kick in and start working automatically, or does something need done for the DR site for the snap sched to start working?
Thanks

While a snapmirror relationship is active, the snapshots on the target are identical to that of the source. If you break the snapmirror, no further updates are sent, however the scheduled snapshots on the source still run (assuming the volume is online). I haven't ever seen this, but before you configure a target volume in a snapmirror relationship, you can set a schedule. I suspect that this is the one that would be in effect on the target volume while it's RW and not actively being mirrored. If, however, you ever resync the snapshot from the source, you'll lose all changes to the target, including snapshots.
What we do to test DR is take manual snapshots on our primary site, leave the mirrors running, and clone the manual snapshot off the snapmirror target. This is read write, and we can continue to replicate during the DR test.
