I'd be glad of theoretical comments and practical experience since it seems very attractive to have the mail drop directory on a filer. I've never dared try!
MTA = qmail with Maildir mailbox format (bugproof over NFS) << Maildirs, unlike mbox files and mh folders, won't be corrupted if the system crashes during delivery. Even better, not only can a user safely read his mail over NFS, but any number of NFS clients can deliver mail to him at the same time.
(in http://cr.yp.to/qmail.html ) MDA = qmail / procmail MUA = any (unix / windows) acessing the mail throught POP and IMAP with courier-imap mail server = redhat 7.1 mail storage = netapp (with an NFS mount point and a symlink)
