Have you got spares on the system at the moment? (sysconfig -r)
I haven't used an F87, but I assume that if you have a spare drive bay, all you need to do is slot a drive in and the filer will pick it up. The console should output something to you saying the new disk is detected.
That said, I have not used anything less than 6.1.2, so things could be different for earlier ONTAP and filer versions.
